Faith, is a monster killer, And she only has until Halloween to kill the demon
I screamed, my heart beating a hundred to the dozen. Pounding in my chest.
The dead girl was sat in my closet, her knees pulled up to her chin and her arms wrapped around them.
Spinning around in a circle, the adrenaline pumping in my veins my hand to my heart that was beating rapidly at the sure shock of her, recognising immediately what she was I said “Fuck, are you trying to kill me?” “Very funny!” she said dryly.
“What the hell are you doing in my closet?” spinning around to look at her now. My heart beat, finally slowing to a normal pace.
She was a pretty girl, looked to be around, sixteen, seventeen, she had long golden blond hair, that framed a heart shaped face, and ice blue eyes Hovered wildly in her face, her skin was paper white, which is how I knew right away what she was.
“You can see me?” she asked stepping out of the closet. There was shock lacing her voice.
Yes I could see her unfortunately.
Seeing dead people was one of my many talents, although I wouldn’t call it a talent. More like a curse.
Rubbing my eyes in frustration with my thumb and finger I replied “I wouldn’t be talking to you if I couldn’t see you” annoyance zipping through me, and then “Oh for the love of Bloody God! Could I not of just gone five minutes or normalcy before the supernatural world descend?” I yelled to no one in particular. My temper was getting the better of me.
When we moved to a new place, it seemed that it was becoming shorter periods of time before the supernatural world found me, I longed for the olden days when I wasn’t so well known, when I could go weeks without interacting with supernatural beings, I like the ignorance’s I once had, in fact I like the Ignorance’s monsters once had, when I could walk past a Demon, and they not know me, or I them, that ignorance was long gone, Now I was a great big shinning beacon.
The girl winced at my outburst: My green eyes flashed at her “sorry” taken a deep calming breath, she wasn’t at fault. The fault lay firmly with him.
“I’m Nikki.” it was said slowly, shyly.
“Please tell me that you don’t haunt this house?” I asked praying that she was just visiting. Although even as I said it I know the answer I would get, Ghost didn’t just visit houses, they haunted houses pure and simple.
“Sorry” she shrugged.
Annoyance made me roll my eyes “Oh that is just great! Let me ask you, did you live here? Or were you murdered here?” I asked bluntly.
Talking to Ghost had been something I had been doing for a long while, I tolerated them at best, Ghost were souls that have not left this world for various reason, most just wanted someone to talk to, when you had been invisible for years on end you tent to get chatty when someone finally sees you. They were annoying at most, in a way I felt a little sorry for them, after all they were dead, and for whatever reason they hadn’t gone were they were supposed to go, weather that be damnation or salvation, most were just lost souls, but sometime you would find a dark soul wondering this Earth, they were evil, the darkest nastiest kind of soul, Everybody was mainly Evil or Good, but they had traits of the other in them, but sometime I would come across a Ghost that had become so twisted and lost that it had lost the little bit of good it had left, these Ghost were dangerous, for like Demons they had no Humanity, just the purest of Evil Remained, and if there was one thing I know it was evil.
This girl however was just going to be annoying.
I glared at her.
“Both” she said quietly.
This was getting worse by the minute. I groaned inwardly. Trying to rack my brain for any conversation that had said that a girl had died in this house, I couldn’t think of one, which led me to one conclusion, someone hadn’t done their job properly.
“My Father beat me to death” she admitted quietly avoiding my eyes. Way to much information for my liking, that was going into detail I didn’t want to hear.
But still I had to feel sorry for her. It was one hell of a way to die, by her own Farther no less, but then I had seen worse atrocities in this world, I had known man to do far greater evil than that, but above all, Demons were the worst, I had seen things, that were horrendous, unimaginable. That even filled my nightmare.
“I am sorry for the loss of your life, but so help me– if you tell me what room you died in I will not be responsible for my actions” was pushed out in a threatening manner. I didn’t want to know, if I was told, all I would see when I enter the room would be her murder; I like to live in ignorance.
She flinched again “I’m sorry”
Rolling my eyes once again “Okay here are the rules, you will not speak unless spoken to, you will not wake me in the middle of the night for a chat, you will not move objects around, and under no circumstances will you leave this house and start to haunt me” I rushed out in one go. I liked rules, personally I didn’t abide by them, I tended to go my own way, but I like dishing out rules, giving other people rules to live their lives by kept me from getting killed, and I like that living was a good thing. I have done this before, on more than one occasion. Experience had tort me over the years that rules had to be set, or chaos would ensue, let me tell you, it not pleasant in school, when the students hear you talking to dead people. Or it can get really annoying when your shoes go missing for the umpteenth time! It was best to nip these problems in the bud right away.
Stomping out the room then, a foul mood set on me now.
“So can all your family see me?” she asked ignoring my first rule. This just blackened my foul mood more.
“No. I am the only one.” it was said begrudgingly.
“So how come you can? Are you like a medium or something? I used to see them on the T.V” she chattered happily. Suspecting she hadn’t talked to anyone in a long time. It was all I could do not to vanish her.
“I am not a medium” we were going down the stairs.
If only I was a medium, my life would be so much easier if I only had Ghost to contend with. Ghost I could handle easily.
It was then that I wondered briefly if I should run away from her, but the though came and went quickly, she could disappear and reappear so there would really be no point to that strategy.
“Then what are you?” she was following right behind me.
Now there was a loaded question if I ever heard one, I had no idea what I was supposed to say to that, of cause I know what I was, my family know what I was, it was just that I am so wrong on so many levels, that people tend to freak out when they find out, I learned a long time ago that it was better not to tell people. I’d had situation where I had been fighting monsters and then have to turn around and fight the people I was trying to save, so I did the only thing I could do I ignored her:
Maybe if I could block her out she would go annoy someone else, but even as I thought it I know that it wasn’t going to happen.
“I mean you have to be something right? To be able to see me?” she said at my back.
We were heading out the door at this point. I wished I could escape her excessive rambling. My mood was getting blacker by the second.
“It’s complicated.” I muttered grumpily, stalking across the front garden.
“What do you mean by complicated?” she asked behind me.
“It just is okay? Now be quite” I stopped to stand in front of my Dad.
He looked at me the smile gone now “Who are you talking to?” he frowned.
“Well it certainly isn’t you!” I snapped. “Have a guess?”
“He looked at the house,” realisation made his skin turn an ash grey colour “you mean there’s a Ghost living in our house?” he almost groaned.
“Don’t worry she harmless.” it was said as I slanted a glance at her.
“Could you not have gone one day Faith, before you brought the supernatural world down on us?” my farther asked handed me a box of junk. I could tell he was pissed, but hey at this point so was I.
It was hardly my fault that the house was haunted, it was on the tip of my tongue to tell him people should of checked the history before buying, I managed by some miracle to bite my tongue.
“Hey I would off settled for an hour.” I shrugged.
“Settled for an hour for what?” my Mother asked coming up behind me.
My mother was a tall slim women; With straight chestnut brown hair, that just touched her shoulder, she had the same colour eyes as her hair and an elegance about her that could take your breath away, once thing about my mum was that nothing fazed her she always had a cool head and temperament.
My mother was a restaurant Manager; she had gotten a job at one of the posh restaurants in Wentworth the nearby town.
My Dad looked at my Mum and said. “Mary I hate to tell you this, but our new home is haunted.” he broke it to her.
Mary’s eyes flew to me “Anything bad? Should I be worried?” she asked me.
“No. She may talk me to death, other than that she harmless” my tone was dry even bored. This was normal for me, seeing Ghost was something I had been doing a long time, I sometime think too long, my mind went back and I couldn’t remember a time when I couldn’t see them.
My Mother looked at my Farther “You know Dan, you shouldn’t be so hard on her, it’s hardly her fault” she scolded him.
Thank you! Finally someone that wasn’t blaming me for the supernatural world, being here on earth, my Mum was great like that, protecting, and defending me in the small ways she could.
Mary put her arm around my shoulder, and squeezed, “don’t worry honey will just have to make the best of it”
Make the best of it? Wasn’t that my life all over?
