Letter to Nikola
Dear Nikola,

Do you remember back in high school, how the two most popular kids dated each other and went everywhere in a large crowd? Billy and Cindy were the popular couple and yes, the king and the queen of the prom. With their noses held high and looking flawless in his tux and her designer gown. Nobody looked better and everyone followed them around like lost puppies. Shortly after high school Billy and Cindy were married and, less than a year later, had their first baby. I was still in college then and surely completely forgotten. Within ten years Billy and Cindy had been through it all, three kids, affairs, a career scandal and a divorce. They are both still living in our little home town less than a mile from the high school where they reigned.
I, on the other hand, went to college and earned my degree. Went out into the work force for a few years and met and married my husband. He too has a college degree and was working an excellent job. We have two beautiful children together and have been happily married for, soon to be, fifteen years. We have moved out of state and now live in the suburbs of a major city approximately 1000 miles from my small town high school and Billy and Cindy.
My life is incredible and I have so many wonderful things to brag about on Facebook and at my upcoming high school reunion. But wouldn't it be awesome if I could add to that list winning an exclusive online contest? I admit I should be a bigger person than this. I also am very happy that the greatest times of my life were not my high school days. I think there is that little place inside all of us that just wants to go up to those popular kids and say "Look at me now!" No, I do not want to have that silly idol worship nor do I want anyone to follow me around. I just would enjoy to be the winner one time for a few minutes.
This letter may not be the most appealing story or the most heart wrenching story but I can assure you it is the most honest. High school was not my finest hour but I have had many since. It is a shame that the last time we are crowned is senior year because I may have had a good chance at winning that crown in my adult life. This contest could be my crown and I win it for every single person who peaked after high school.

Thank you very much.

Sincerely,
Beth
