When you know...
There are no blood ties here,
Just thick,murky water.
What used to run
as a pure stream
is polluted
with rage
and pain
and lies.

I am so thirsty -
thirsty
for love,
for peace,
for harmony.
I long
to drench
my parched lips,
but I cannot drink
anymore
of this
slow poison.

I close my eyes
remember
the purity we once knew.
Was it real
or imagined?
I may never know.
I can no longer
find it here.

If
I could live
on my tears,
they are plentiful enough
to sustain me.
Yet,
soon even they
will fall prey
to this affliction
of lack.

I must move on,
I cannot survive
on illusions
and disappointments
anymore.
I will only return
to this
once beautiful place
in my dreams.

It’s over.
