A long ago love in a time of turmoil...
In public
you always kept
your back to a wall
observing the door -
like a dark haired pit bull
with CIA eyes
loyal to only me.

You stood
like a mountain range
a cluster
of shadows and sunlight
giving me cover
in rocky crags
of mystery.

That wreck
had scarred your nose
but you allowed
my kisses to climb it
and find adventure
on the foothills of your face.

When I cowered
in a hollow place
you sat like a shelter
while wind whipped
around and through
the stilts of my old house.

We roamed
the off season shore
thinking the sun and moon
belonged to us
and gathered the sea's treasures
as if they were our own.

With you
I took flight
in a glide of seagull's wings
and cried
to the pink of sunrise
over breaking waves.

Now,
when I think of you
I wonder
if you still have long hair
and if you ever found
Home.
