A reflection on learning to be present in a moment
Being present
is not being presentable
dirty, smelly, wounded
alert, atuned, aware
let breath and smell and sound
come to mind
let sight diminish
or awaken
either do not see
or truly see
but do not be distracted
instead
invade the moment
be it sunny, or rainy
or quiet or noisy
stop all thoughts
of back then, soon or sometime
feel the seat you are sitting in
or the (holy) ground you stand on
Feel the air on your cheeks
or arms
Feel the warmth or cold
Smell sweet grass or coffee or noonday lunch
Allow your thoughts to sift
to drift
do not chase them away
pick up each one
examine it (meditatio)
and let it go
do not be in a rush
tarry
let the God you know
be
be with you
let your heart and soul begin to hear
even if they hear nothing
enjoy the quiet space
and know that God also
makes quiet space for you
to be
just be
