The homesick man discovers a horrid truth.
Standing on the balcony of the 24th floor. The clear blue waves that stretched across the waterfront view crashes onto the fine-grained sand. Looking below, the pool with a teal tinted marble base was filled with children. The overly excited children splashed around creating the waves that reminded me of my homeland.

Dazing off into a trance, I imagined myself laying on the beach with the tropical palm trees swaying in the wind. Sipping on a freshly cut coconut, I peered at the sunset. The brilliant orange blended in with the canvas of the open sky. The clouds create thin wisps of cotton fibers. The seagulls soar effortlessly through the clouds.

The thunderous knocks on the aluminum door awaken me. Treading towards the door, I unlatched the locks and cracked the door open. “UPS delivery, I have a package for you.” He said nervously. Swinging the door back, I snatched the package from his hands and slammed the door. Tossing the package onto the bed, I searched for a pair of scissors. Grabbing the pair left on the dresser, I carefully sliced the thin tape.

A horrendous odor escapes the package. Ripping the flaps apart, a severed head lays on its side. Gasping at the sight. I grabbed the box and hurled it off the balcony.

The box tumbled in the air. Impacting the surface of the water, a child drags the box to the outskirts of the pool. Reaching in and lifting a severed head. High pitched screams are heard about. She was told to drop the head by her protective mother.

I couldn’t accept the fact, which my daughter’s severed head was in the box.
