the night before you go
I bury my face into your neck
paws burrow thru slumber-soft pajamas
clasp your breathing flesh
you kiss my hair
never let me go

when you're gone
I study the peculiarities of every paving slab
assault my brain with nothing important
laugh too loudly at nothing funny
to suffocate my aloneness.
