A draft of a poem that just came to me.
Back in Your Arms

I’m back in your arms where I belong.
The time that we were separated was enough to drive one mad.
I felt so cold and forlorn when I tried to sleep.
The flowers in my yard seemed so drab.
I could not laugh, smile, or even sing a tune.
Every day was the same; empty, hopeless, or miserable.
But you said that you had to go.
You needed to work some difficult thoughts out, in your mind.
You even told me that you might never come back.
And I knew that I should not try to change your mind.
A tiger in a cage is not happy. It wants to die.
It was such a long time that I think I saw the trees grow up.
I even thought that I saw you in a crowd. But that was another man.
And when I thought that I must move on, there was a knock on my door.
You stood in my doorway. Your eyes said the rest.
The embrace we shared was of a new beginning that would last forever.
This would be the first day of the rest of our life, together.
