Villanelle for Writer's Cramp.
Back in the old west when advance was slow,
they employed nature, and boy did it fly!
Man achieved progress beyond rodeo.

Boats on the river would float to and fro;
from plains of Kansas to Montana sky.
Back in the old west when advance was slow.

Off on some branch of an old river flow,
they would move logs when the water was nigh.
Man achieved progress beyond rodeo.

When trees were felled, men would look from below;
trunks would slide down the troughs from way up high.
Back in the old west when advance was slow.

Counting on gravity was apropos;
forces in nature on which to rely.
Man achieved progress beyond rodeo.

Then with the logs at the mill in a row,
out came a board or a post for pigsty.
Back in the old west when advance was slow,
man achieved progress beyond rodeo.
