First Impressions can be deceiving.
Mr. Krinkle was a strange man.
He liked to play with rubber bands and,
he gave them out to strangers on the street.
He liked to pull out his pocket watch and,
he’d invite almost everyone one to touch it--
he said it dated back to the Civil War.

He drove around in an old blue Bug,
(Volkswagen Beetle if you didn’t know and),
he liked to fly his kites in City Park.
His clothes were threadbare and they needed washed,
a full white beard really hid his face and,
he talked a blue streak all the time.

I often thought that he was odd, but maybe I was cheating.
That first impression can lock your mind away,
I think that bears repeating.

It was a windy day in March I think,
He was flying his kite in the baseball field.
I walked upon the grass to where he stood.
His bright blue eyes informed me like a light,
the small talk gathered speed within the breeze and,
I saw and heard a beautiful mind.

I labeled him as strange--at least that was my first thought.
But when I talked to him I realized,
the beauty inside is well worth the time and,
it can so often mesmerize.
