Regina meets the good doctor
TOOTHACHE DIARY
CHAPTER 10

Yes there’s definitely someone here with me. I can feel them. My vision is a little blurred, so I can’t see him or her very clearly. But they are definitely an angel. They’re wearing all white. Just like the pictures in my kiddie Bible I used to have. I’m so thankful I made it to Heaven. No more pain. No more heartache. No more hurt. Just everlasting peace.

My angle is walking toward me now. Funny, I thought all angels flew or kind of glided everywhere they needed to go. Well anyway, he’s looking down at me. I think my angel is a male angel. He looks nice. But I guess all angels do. He’s reaching for something in his robe. OW!! What the…? He’s shining a bright light in my eye. What the hell..

“Regina, can you hear me?”
“Yes, I can hear you.”
“Good. How do you feel?’
“I feel fine. I’ll feel better when you take that light out of my eye.”
“Sorry. Just a routine checkup.”
Checkup? Why do I need a checkup to go to my Heavenly home. Now he’s putting on gloves. Did I miss something in Sunday school? I mean I could’ve since I wasn’t paying close attention.
“Regina, could you open your mouth for me please?’
“What?”
“Open your mouth. I would like to take a look at your teeth.”
“No way. Hell no. Excuse me for cursing Mr. Angel but I don’t let anyone look inside my mouth. Now I know you probably have orders from God himself, but I can’t let you do that. Besides, what does my teeth have to do with getting into Heaven?”
“Heaven? God? Angel? Ms. Regina, do you know where you are?”
“No not really. But I do know I’m dead and I need a final resting place. So did I make it in or not?”
“Regina, you’re not dead. I’m not an angel and this isn’t Heaven. You’re in a hospital. You were brought in several hours ago. You suffered from aspirin poisoning. You’ve been unconscious until now. You’re not dead. You’re very much alive. Now, how about those teeth?
Can I take a look?”

Well I’ll be damned. I lived. Well, there goes my everlasting peace.
“Now Regina, if you could open wide…”
“Nope”
“Ok, well I’ll just do some x-rays then.”
“Why?”
“Because your daughter asked me to. She seemed very adamant about it.”
“My daughter? My daughter is here?”
“Yes. Her and your sister. They’ve been here the whole time. I asked your sister if could give me any input as to why you would purposely overdose on aspirin. She couldn’t give me an answer. But your daughter suggested I take a look at your teeth. So, here I am.”

Well, Miss Thang ratted me out. She didn’t do it to hurt me, or embarrass me. I know that much. She’s worried about me. She wants to help me. She was tired of watching me slowly take my own life. She had to say something. That took a lot of courage. It’s a sad state of affairs when a child has more guts than their parent.
