12 Days of Christmas entry (Day 7)
On Christmas Eve at water’s edge
Sits a beauty frail and sad
Alone she mourns a lover lost
The only love she’d ever had
Seduced by tales his tongue would weave
She’d given into desire
Needs of the flesh were fulfilled
Needs consumed by his fire

On Christmas Eve at water’s edge
She draws a maudlin sound
From the violin she’d played for him
Before their love unwound
From her lips a sweet tune begins
The last you’ll ever hear
For this swan song is truly that
And our young girl’s end is near

On Christmas Day at water’s edge
A violin may be found there
But not a trace of our broken girl
Or the pain she couldn’t bear
And just as quickly as her lover
The river swept that girl away
I believe we would all agree
She’d planned it all that way
