a love returns
Mi Amor

The sky was cloudy.  The palm trees were picking up the breeze from the nearby ocean.  It was quiet; no one else around.  She waited patiently at the end of the terminal by the stone pillars.  She could easily see the runway from here and she didn't want to miss his plane landing.

Jillian hadn't seen Michael since the bureau had sent him to South America for six months.  It was a secret operation.  She wasn't sure what he had been working on; and she didn't care.  He was coming home today.  Valentine's Day!  It had been so long since she had seen him, let alone feel his arms around her.

They both worked for the government; he in intelligence, her in research.  That is how they met.  He came strolling into the library one afternoon looking for additional research on various mines in South America.  Her heart fluttered when she looked up into his deep brown eyes and he casually asked if she could help him.  Of course, she could.  Nothing would please her more.  After several days of peering over research documents together when he finally asked if she wanted to grab a cup of joe at a local coffee shop.  From then on time was a roller coaster for them.

The had kept in touch best they could over the six months. There were times he was in remote areas of South America and not always accessible via social media or cell phone.  However, that had changed about one week ago when he called to say he was coming home.

Finally, she saw a small plane approaching the runway.  Off in the distance she could see the landing gear pull out from beneath the plane.  The pilot leveled out the wings and slowly made his descent onto the runway in what appeared to be a smooth landing for all.  The plane taxied closer to the terminal where a exit stairs were brought over to the plane. The door was opened and passengers began making their descent down the stairs.

Jillian waited patiently watching.  Had she missed him.  She had her eyes glued to the plane so she would be sure not to miss him.  Everyone walked past her through the pillars as they exited the main terminal until finally it was quiet again.

She sighed and her shoulders drooped.  No Michael!  Where he could be?

“Mi Amor, Jilly”, she heard the soft voice behind. “Mi Amor”.

Jillian turned and there he stood, dark and handsome as always.  She practically ran into his arms as he dropped his bag to the ground.  They embraced sharing a kiss of happiness and excitement of seeing each other.

“Feliz día de San Valentín, Mi Amor.”  “Happy Valentine's Day, my love. “
