Ski Time

A ray of light glares,
within clouds of cotton;
the sky of an ocean,
a blue I've forgotten.

In the distance,
mountains covered with snow;
the pine trees are green,
they dance to and fro.

My boy he can't wait,
with skis by his side;
in just a few moments,
he'll take his first ride.

He's wearing his helmet,
there was no need to pack it;
a smile on his face,
as I zip up his jacket.

We walk to the slope
and snap on our skis;
a moment in time,
just my son and me.

The instructor is friendly,
he shakes my boy's hand;
My son, looks at me,
and says, "this is my dad."

He gets in his stance,
looks down the hill;
can't wait to go,
confronting the thrill.

He pushes on forward,
I'm right by his side;
It's ski time today,
I follow with pride.
