Back and forth thioughts
Swinging

On this warm summer evening
With the night sky a blushing pink,
I swing back and forth in the glider
With too much time to think.

My thoughts of you are frequent
And sometimes bring me tears.
I let them fall, then blink my eyes
And recall the happy years.

I smile a while and then I cry.
Back and forth I go.
Just as I swing in the glider,
At first high, and then low.

The early years together
Were adventurous and fun.
The later years were more sedate,
Not crazy, but also not glum.

Then all of a sudden the years were gone
And, sadly, so were you.
And so were all the happy times
When we were a silly two.

Back and forth and to and fro
I swing on this patio glider,
As my mind moves in a similar way
With eternity the great divider.
