thoughts abut my relocation after marriage
I could not understand the way of life,
when I fist came to Kentucky.
Newly married a new family to learn,
they all thought I was lucky.

They didn't know the life I'd lived,
back home where I was from.
They knew I was different from the start,
and the life of which I had come.

I didn't garden or put in jars,
the food they grew in the dirt.
Didn't want to learn it wasn't my way,
and I never wore a skirt.

I thought I would teach them a better way,
don't they know there are stores to buy,
all that food they work so hard,
all I got was a long sigh.

Forty years have come and gone,
since I was going to show why,
using the store to get your food,
was a better way to get by.

But I was the one who learned a lot,
the wisdom that country folks give.
Honest and proud of who they are.
Now that is the way to live.
