I write this poem as I sit helplessly and watch my neighbors house burn to the ground.
FIRE

The snow lays cold on the ground,
yet the heat and fire fill the air.
I watch helpless of what to do.
Hopelessness in this time of despair.

Hot flames lick at the trees,
smoke obscures my view.
Desire to make everything stop,
but I haven't got a clue.

What is there I can do,
As I stand in silent dismay.
How to help and stop the rage,
to make it go away.

All is calm, the fire is gone.
Firemen all gone home.
Now the impact hits me hard.
In relief I hear myself moan.

Fire is such a scary thing,
Thank God, no one is hurt.
Recovery starts to ease my mind.
What remains is only charred dirt.
