A Trip to Death

“Let’s get going.” Kurtill yelled up toward the second and third floor of his house. “We should have been out of here six hours ago.”

Kurtill was standing next to the family HoverCar. A HoverCar that had no doors and no rear Storage Space. All of the Cloths Containers were already in the Storage Space. The only thing stopping him from leaving was his family.

Over the next few minutes his family finally showed up one by one. First it was his mate - Pearli. Then their kids. Kurtill and Pearli had four kids - two males and two females. The oldest was Lindem. And he was sixteen. Then there was Thimma. Who was thirteen. And then there was Erok. He was ten. The baby of the family, at age eight, was Wauria.

Once everyone was in the HoverCar they were ready to leave. The first thing Kurtill did was hit a button between him and Pearli in the front seats. That button placed a Personal Protective Shield around each one of them. Then Kurtill hit another button. And suddenly the HoverCar had doors and a closed Storage Space.

After checking with his family to make sure everyone was ready to go Kurtill hit another button. This one on the Control Panel in front of him. That button started the HoverCar.

The HoverCar was barely out of the family parking space next to the house when Pearli turned toward Kurtill. “Don’t forget Kurtill we have a couple of places we have to stop by before we leave Jankins.”

“What do we need to get? Whatever it is you should have gotten it before we left,” said Kurtill.

“We didn’t have time to get everything,” said Pearli. “You only gave us a few hours to get ready to go on this trip.”

“This is all your fault,” said Kurtill. “We wouldn’t have to go on this trip if it wasn’t for you.”

“It’s not my fault. I didn’t want to be the only one who saw that murder,” said Pearli.

“I know it’s not your fault. I’m sorry I said that,” said Kurtill. “All of this is happening so fast. One second Yeal is being Detained and the next he’s missing.”

After stopping off and getting some Personal Care Paper and some Portable Food. Once they got that they left Jankins. They only had to be gone for four months at the most before Yeal had his Day of Detention. His Day of Detention was four months away. But once they detain him they would be able to return home – if they can detain him. There was a Regional wide alert out for Yeal. Law Enforcement was sure they would only have to be at the MiniHouse for about a month – two months at the most.

It was a long way to the MiniHouse. About eight hours to get there. And that’s if they go straight there. Which they weren’t. They were given a special HoverCar. That HoverCar changed Type and Color four times before they got to the MiniHouse. The HoverCar would go into a tunnel one Type and Color but they would come out of that tunnel a different Type and Color.

Kurtill and Pearli took turns behind the Controls of that HoverCar. And they didn’t even have to change side to do it. Each one of them had the exact same Controls in front of them.

The biggest problem was with the kids. Keeping the busy for ten to eleven hours was going to be easy. That’s why the stopped off to get some Portable Food. And that was mostly for Erok and Wauria. Lindem and Thimma had other thing to do. Thimma was working on her Personal Video Entries. And Lindem was contacting his friends.

“You can’t tell your friends, or anyone, were we are going,” said Kurtill. “We can’t take any chances when it comes to Pearli.”

“I know that Kurtill. I’m not telling my friends were we are going. All I am telling them is that you got a transfer for a few months to set up another branch of Portable Food Mart.

“Where are you telling them we are going to? You’re not telling them it’s anywhere near the MiniHouse,” said Kurtill. “Are you?”

“I’m not telling the anywhere,” said Lindem. “I don’t want to see Pearli killed.”

Kurtill and Pearli didn’t have to worry about Erok and Wauria. They slept some of the way to the MiniHouse. Thimma wasn’t a problem either. She spent all her time working on her Personal Video Entries.

Thimma didn’t have to worry about anyone overhearing her when she was working on her Personal Video Entries. That’s because of her Personal Protective Shield. One touch of the shield in just the right spot – and no one could hear anything she was saying.

When they weren’t behind the Controls of that HoverCar Kurtill and Pearli were sleeping. At least Kurtill was. Pearli couldn’t get any sleep. She tried. But every time she did all she could dream about was Yeal and that murder he committed.

With all the HoverCar changes it took them almost eleven hours to be to the MiniHouse hidden deep within a Wooded Area. They never left that MiniHouse – alive. One by one each one of them was killed. And Pearli was the last one to be killed. Yeal wanted her to watch as he killed the rest of her family first. He was even crazy than anyone thought he was.

Yeal was finally detained. And he did get his Day of Detention. But before he did he killed them all. Just before Pearli was killed she wanted to know something. “How did you know where we were at?”

“I was Thimma. And her Personal Video Entries,” admitted Yeal. “Right from the beginning I knew where you were at.”
