Rhymed description of the rocket attack that almost killed me and two friends.
A Soldier's Prayer

Nightly words in the sandy strafe,
"Guide me, protect me, keep me safe."
With filthy hands, but a chastened heart
I knew I was safe, each time I'd depart.

Then was the night with the rocket so close,
Fire from the sky, then the ground it arose.
Three of us there, all God-fearing folk,
Still three of us there, I saw through the smoke.

Word was we were dead, it hit us too close.
But, no one can die 'cept those that God chose.
No matter how hard they try or how much work,
God holds all our futures, from the king to the clerk.
