A short story about a public break up (intended flash fiction but unsure if it works)

CHEATER

Nobody knew she would react like that. But I suppose, nobody sees the crazy until the crazy attacks.

I was just trying to have a nice meal with Betsy. It was during this meal that I was going to ask her to move in with me. It was all planned- until I saw Felicity.

I've never liked to be with just one girl. I like to have my fun and be with a few. They never find out about each other but the type of girls I get with don't really care about me being with others because they're usually with other men. But Betsy... she was different. I genuinely felt like I was falling in love with her. I had never felt this way and it scared me. The way her big brown eyes that sparkled every time she looked at me. Her smooth shiny brown hair that every time the wind blew I smelt strawberries. I panicked. I felt so strongly about this girl that I blew it before it had even started. I met Felicity on a night out and just kept meeting her. I would always go back to Betsy because with Felicity, it was all sex and nothing else. That's the only reason I was with her. She was my blonde bimbo on the side.

The restaurant that I had booked for Betsy and I was an expensive one. I wanted to spoil the girl of my dreams. I promised myself that I would end things with Felicity as soon as I was definitely sure that Betsy was the one. As stupid as Felicity is, the sex is great. Betsy and I haven't got that far yet, don't want to rush anything.

We were showed our table and I was the perfect gentleman. I pulled out her chair for her to sit down at and just as I pushed her closer to the table, I looked up and made eye contact with a very familiar person. I could recognise those blonde locks and pale blue eyes anywhere. Felicity. My heart dropped and I panicked. Maybe she hadn't fully recognised it was me. I turned my face away and sat down opposite Betsy. I knew Felicity was a waitress but I would never have guessed that she worked in such an establishment like this.

Our waiter took our drink order and we sat there in silence for a few minutes just looking deeply into each other's eyes. It would have been so romantic if it wasn't for the fact that Felicity was just swimming round my mind. What if she came over? It would mean the end for Betsy and I. I needed to do something. I told Betsy I was nipping to the bathroom and swiftly escaped to go find Felicity.

She had seen me get up and was waiting outside the men's bathroom.

"WHO IS THAT GIRL?" she shouted in my face.

"Felicity-"

"DON'T FELICITY ME! I WANT TO KNOW WHO THAT BITCH YOU'RE WITH IS"

"Just calm down-"

"DON'T TELL ME TO CALM DOWN! YOU'RE CHEATING ON ME?!"

She started crying and screaming all at once. I didn't think she was this serious about me. I didn't know how to feel. Did she have more brains and emotions than I thought? Brains and great sex? This could be a brilliant match. Well, it could have been until she shoved me out the way and ran at Betsy.

"YOU BOYFRIEND STEALING BITCH." everyone turned to look. She was causing a scene.

"I think you have the wrong person-"

"Babe, ignore this woman, she doesn't know what she's talking about." I quickly ran over to try and solve things.

"Excuse me, but we would like to ask you to leave now and, Felicity, the manager wants to see you in his office straight away." Our waiter had come over to stop us all.

"You were cheating on me? What about everything we've been through? I thought I was the love of your life?"

Oh Betsy. Tears were starting to roll down her face and I didn't know what to do. I so badly wanted to comfort her but as soon as I reached towards her face she whipped her head away. It felt like someone had ripped out my heart and stomped on it. This was it. I had completely ruined things.

"LOVE OF YOUR LIFE? PFFT, THAT'S WHAT HE SAYS TO ALL HIS GIRLS APPARENTLY." She turned to look at me, "I loved you. I thought you loved me back but I guess not." Her face had turned red with anger.

"Felicity-"

"I DON'T WANT TO HEAR YOUR EXCUSES YOU PATHETIC EXCUSE OF A MAN! I WANT YOU OUT OF MY LIFE FOR GOOD" and that's when she grabbed the knife from the table.

Somebody screamed.
