Challange: Write a short story in English (maximum length: 300 words) in which you include some of these elements: fashion week, business building, cameras, sparkly dresses, jealous best friend, hot boyfriend, strawberries and champagne, restaurant, prom night.

Have you ever read one of those teenage love stories? I have. Boy meets girl, they fall in love and live happily ever after. Throw in a jealous best friend and you have yourself a best seller.

I'm not gonna lie, I ate that stuff up like a starved man on thanksgiving dinner. It seemed so easy. The girl was never anything special, average looks, average grades, maybe a bit shy or clumsy...just like me. The guy would always be gorgeous. An Adonis in flesh.

For some reason, he would find the average girl irresistible. She wouldn't have to put in any effort, he would do it all for her, because she is just so perfect in his eyes. He would take the Moon down for just a smile from her. It seemed like an unreachable dream, but I met my Adonis.
He was a transfer student from somewhere in Europe. He had this little mischievous smirk that would just make his eyes sparkle and your toes curl. He had a deep, rumbling voice you could listen to for days. It could have been me. But in this story, I wasn't the one who he smiled at. In this story, I'm the jealous best friend and it doesn't have a happy ending.

For months, I listened about how perfect he is, about them eating strawberries and drinking champagne on a cloudless night. I just smiled and nodded. I just pretended I was happy for her. Then came prom night. I brought my best that night. Enticing make up, bouncy hair and a sparkly dress. I wanted to show him what he was missing. Everyone complimented me, everyone but him. He only had eyes for her.

And as the knife slipped for my fingers I thought "It should have been me."
