A poem about two people, both too scared to open up their hearts.
She shied away from him,
Afraid of heartbreaking rejection
And hid her heart so well,
You’d never know of her affection.

He kept a distant mind,
Never let a stray thought in,
And kept his feelings straight in line
To protect his walls from caving in.

Every day unfolded just the same
Too afraid speak out loud;
Closing in, brick by brick,
Blind to all that they were missing out.

Life had put them on this path,
Wrecked havoc on their youthful years
But this day it brought them out
To make up for lonely tears.

So they stood in front of one another
Looked each other in the eye
He made a joke, she smiled and laughed
But they barely heard each other.

She was a million miles away
In a land that she imagined,
Where it was always safe to go,
Where no one thought that she was damaged.

He was sunken deep within,
At the bottom of his chest,
Where no one else could see him bleed,
In the darkness, where he’d always been.
