Chapter One
August 2008

Twenty year old Ronnie Riches was on his way home from his first day of college. He called up his boyfriend twenty year old Jamie Smith who lived in their hometown of Franklin Ohio. There is some distant yelling in the background, and he hears a door shutting.

“Hey you,” says Jamie. “You got me out of another one of my mom’s and her new boyfriend’s fight again thank you for that.”
“No problem,” says Ronnie
Ronnie turns on the street to the student dorms. He parks his small red Toyota and gets his student I. D. badge with his room key to unlock his dorm on the third floor.
“I’m so glad I moved to campus when I did,” he says into the phone as Jamie sighs.

“I guess, but you could have just stayed with me and my mom, she was open to it for a while you get your degree in music.” says Jamie

“Yeah I know, but I wanted a change of scenery, I'm tired of Franklin, that town just got old,”
says Ronnie as he lays on his bed.

His dorm was a small two bedroom with a common area and one bath that he shared with two other students. His roommates didn’t find out that he liked boys instead of girls yet, but he didn’t want to be bullied again like he was back at Franklin High when the two first came out.
“Hello? You still there Ronnie?” asked Jamie. “Have you been listening to what I was saying?”
Ronnie sits up, “No, what were you saying?”
“I said my mom’s new boyfriend is talking about sending me to a straight camp!” says Jamie.
Ronnie gasps,
“Why? your mom was the only one to support us, and my parents disowned me, and my siblings pretend that I died in a car crash!” yells Ronnie.

“What are we going to do?” asks Jamie.
Ronnie looks up at his Green Day poster and takes a deep breath.

“When are you supposed to go to the camp?”

“In a two weeks.” says Jamie

Ronnie laughs “You have time still before you have to go, try convincing them to not make you go.” Ronnie hears something shatter and then a female crying on Jamie’s end.

“Oh god Frank’s drunk again.”says Jamie

“Has he ever hit you?” asks Ronnie

“If Frank did he would be on the ground dead, getting back to what we were talking about Frank is a hard core christen, now please tell me how exactly I can convince him?”
Ronnie groans “You're an adult dude.” Jamie gets off his bed and bangs on his bedroom wall.

“Shut the hell up Frank!”
Jamie sighs
“Just get me the hell out of here, they don’t see me as a twenty year old because I don’t work or anything yet but it’s hard to find work in a small town.”

Ronnie throws up his hands in frustration.

“You know what? Fine get your things together and I will come get you next Monday.” Ronnie ends the call and throws his phone across the room.
