Three Minute Read
At the Park

Ray sat on the bench, his head in his hands. He’d lost Gina that’s for sure, why had he been flirting? He wasn’t even interested in Celeste, he just wanted to see if Celeste was interested in him. What a jerk!!

“You OK?” someone asked. Ray looked up but nobody was there, just a dog. He looked around some more. “It’s me, the dog,” came the voice again.

“A dog? Talking? Right. Who’s the funny guy?” he said, looking around again.

The dog cocked his head, “It’s me,” he said.

“Oh really, so how come your lips aren’t moving?”

“Well, first of all, we dogs don’t have lips. Second, we don’t advertise knowing how to talk, it would get weird. I just thought you looked like someone who could use a friend right now.”

“How do you know so much English?”

“People talk all the time, we’d have to be idiots not to pick it up.”

“But, we don’t understand dog...”

“Your point? Anyway, you seem to be in bad shape, love life?”

“Yes. I was flirting with this girl last night and my girlfriend, Gina, caught me and she broke up with me! Until then I didn’t realize how much Gina meant to me! I don’t know what to do. I don’t want to need her this much. I thought I was “The Man,” carefree, never tied down. But Gina... I want Gina, I need Gina! What am I gonna do?”

“Why don’t you tell all this to Gina?”

“I can’t tell Gina! I can’t let Gina know how important she is to me. That’s crazy! Are you crazy?”

“Well, I don’t want to be rude, but you’re the one who’s sitting here talking to a dog...”
