Crispbread

“Could you tell me where to find the crispbread?” I asked the clerk in the aisle.

She looked at me, cocking her head to one side saying, “Do you mean... toast?” I realized she thought I was ‘confused’ and was being kind.

“No no, it’s actually a product called crispbread. I think it’s like a cracker but I didn’t see it in the cracker aisle. Of course there are a lot of things in the cracker aisle, I might have missed it.”

“Well, let’s go look together!” she said. “What do you use it for?”

I was hesitant to say because she was so nice. It was for my latest diet and she clearly outweighed me by a good bit. However, I was not good at white lies so I just told her.

“Wow, I never heard of that one! I thought I had tried every diet on earth already!” She took out a pad and wrote the name of the diet on it. “I’m going to look this up later!” She was clearly excited, a kindred spirit for sure.

I gave her my small knowledge of the diet so far as we walked. It was my sister encouraging me to try it, I hadn’t even started. “But she’s lost nine and a half pounds already and she’s very happy with it!” I said.

“And you think these crispbreads, which are like crackers, are to replace actual bread? And it’s better for you?” she asked.

“Apparently. My sister says you put things on them, not like a sandwich though, snacky things, and they are very filling.”

“Oh, cool!” she said, “What are you planning to put on yours?”

“Chunky peanut butter...”

“I knew I liked you!!” she said, “Let’s go find the crispbread!!” and off we went.
