“I love you.”

When I refer to “You”, I mean the person I was arguing with right up to a couple of hours ago. You never did lose an argument, at least not one of our arguments.

When I speak of “Our Arguments”, I’m thinking of the different points of view we had when it comes to most things, for example social issues. You never would agree that poverty was a symptom while I only ever saw it as an accidental endowment, intended to be temporary to all but the idle.

When I say “Temporary”, I am reminded suddenly of the nature of our relationship, that is, of my deep-down belief that it was always intending towards ending. I am jolted and I shake you but you do not move. You will never move. I grab hold of and squeeze your arm.

“Please don’t leave me.”

When I say “Don’t Leave ”, I don’t intend for you not to go, it’s just a matter of timing you see because we really have passed the point of no return. So I don’t mean wake up or come back to me. I just mean don’t go until I tell you something.

“You’ll pay for this!”

When I say “Pay”, I don’t mean you will suffer any more than you already have. I just mean that I am broke, that I have been broke for months, and that I had to cut the medical insurance payments. It’s ok though, a temporary interlude only, as your estate will cover everything.

When I say your “Estate”, I mean my reward for the love I manufactured for you.

“Rest In Peace, my dearest.”
