A Midautumn Night's Dream

Midnight in the garden,
'midst a mid autumn nights dream
Drawn out still, we find them,
stitched in tight, in seams

A tapestry of ardour,
a quilt with panels, mixed
Schizophrenic... life seems harder,
when the weaving isn't fixed

Loose amidst the aether,
I find myself downstream,
more than one might weather
... more than it might seem

Seeking out enchanted things,
with magic lost and won,
But stripping fairies of their wings?
... its not the way its done

Better left unto themselves,
despite an aching need
Notions safe, stashed high on shelves,
dreams that we don't heed

Goals above my station, raised,
I just can't seem to shake
Lost in hesitation, dazed,
grand games with hidden stakes

Standing in such headlights, stunned,
stranded in plain sight,
A deer stuck in deadlights, shunned,
I count my thoughts tonight

Thoughts I don't have funding for,
so difficult to find
A chance I'd never sought before,
... it never crossed my mind

Untill I heard a wingbeat, wrong
so right within the gloom
Missing errant heartbeats, strong
in corners of the room

Scrabbling for common ground,
... she's swooping through the air
She's all I see, the best I've found,
nothing else compares

Grounded, bound, the earth confines,
it leaves me lost, it stings,
Stranded, blind, beyond sidelines,
... waiting in the wings

Wings so drawn out in the weave
mid autumn dreams laid bare
Midnight midst the garden's leaves
... you'll find me waiting there
