We fall to darkness at times, so that we may know the light once more
Into the unknown
I'm here.
Alone
Again
Just my thoughts and my shadow

Sounds are muted, dulled
Machines whirl. I can hear a voice, faintly
Muttering about the mundane
Like any of that matters anymore
Irrelevant

We're dying. Slowly.
All of us
A species that has come so far, yet
Despite our advancements
We have dug our own graves
We go back
We return, as ancients

None of this was meant to last
Civilizations die, and are reborn, anew
Like the Phoenix.
The great fire erupts and demolishes
everything.
Just smoke tendrils and forgotten parts
Shards of pottery. Broken steel fragments.

The end comes for us all
And it can't come too soon for me.
I am weary
My ghost is fading.
