Cleaning Out the Shed

Cleaning out the shed. I’d put it off forever... I hadn’t cleaned it out once since I lived here. Things came and went, sure, but clean it out? It was usually pack it in tighter.

It was time. We were selling the house and had to clear out the excess. Make sure we had what we wanted and get rid of the rest. We had our eyes on the lovely two bedroom, with a balcony!

Removing a mattress, I apparently kept for some reason I couldn’t even imagine, behind it I found my old bike! I’d forgotten all about it! I probably hadn’t ridden it since before my first was born, thirty four years ago!

Excitement rushed through my veins as I pulled it out. They say you never forget how to ride a bike. I was gonna test that theory. It looked good, dark green paint with white racing stripes, even the tires were still inflated. On I hopped.

So, it’s true you never forget how to ride a bike! On the other hand in thirty four years your eyesight may have changed a bit and you may wish you had been wearing your glasses...

I didn’t see the rock, pedaling down the sloping driveway. It didn’t take much for my skinny frame to fly up, though I kept a good grip on the handlebars! Fortunately we were close enough and landed on the grass. Nothing broken on either of us. Except my pride.

I was a little sore the next day (weeks...) The bike got a ‘For Sale’ sign and sold in an hour in front of our house. I used the money to hire the kid next door to haul the rest of the stuff out of the shed.

We didn’t keep any of it. Go figure!
