Whispers

“Did you get it?”

“Yes!”

“Let’s see!”

“We have to get out of here.”

“Oh yeah! Did anybody see you?”

“I don’t think so, come on.”

As they started sneaking down the hallway, there was a small noise.

“What was that?”

“I don’t know.”

“Are you sure nobody saw you?”

“I’m sure I didn’t see anybody see me, but how would I know?”

“Huh?”

“What if they saw us and started sneaking too?

“All we can do is get out of here, fast!”

“Is that what I think it is?” came a third whisper.

“Who’s there!”

“Shhhhh! It’s just me!” came another voice.

“What are you doing here?

“Same as you, to steal the test questions! Nice plan to copy them so Mr. Shakes won’t know. I would have just taken them and then probably gotten caught!”

“Shhhh! We need to get out of here!”

“Right! I left the back door ajar, we can get out quickly, and unseen there!” They all headed for the back door, and successfully escaped.

The next day in class, as Mr. Shakes began passing out the tests, he said, “I know you won’t mind, the test is a little shorter than usual. I spilled my coffee on the original test this morning so I couldn’t make copies. I quickly made up a new one based on the things we have worked on over the year. We’ll see if you’ve all have really been paying attention!”

It was a fib, he hadn’t spilled his coffee. He did however notice somebody had used the copier in his office, and that his second drawer was not quite completely closed.

As he passed out the tests, he made a mental note of which students were sweating the most about today’s replacement test, there were just three...
