The Dream

Addie knew she was dreaming. She had heard that happened sometimes, someone knowing when they were in a dream, but it had never happened to her before. She was afraid to move at first, afraid she would spoil it by waking up.

Eventually, having taken in everything she could see, she tried moving. Her body was strange, not like the one she was used to. It seemed to have more arms and they were thin, it took her a while to figure out how to move them. Once she did, however, she started feeling secure about staying in the dream for a while.

She was in a big space and the bottom was almost all green. It was so big some edges actually touched the bottom of the sky! And the sky was different, a deeper color with big white clouds, and not moving much.

Suddenly she saw other beings, that looked like her, nearby. A bit afraid, but taking comfort in knowing it was just a dream, she approached them. Oddly, she knew what to say out of her funny new mouth, “Good morning!”

“And good morning to you!” one of them said, then the other, “Lovely day for a walk in the park!” and they both smiled and walked on. Addie smiled too, she couldn’t seem to help it.

Looking up she realized the dream was starting to fade. The sky was less blue and each cloud had started mixing together with it. At the edges of “the park” as she now knew it, the greens were getting too fluffily together. She relaxed, and let it go, waking up immediately.

Addie remembered every second of that dream for the rest of her life. Pretty impressive wouldn’t you say?

Well, it was certainly impressive for a fish.
