Luck would have it
As he emerged from the tunnel and felt the cool morning air blow across his face, looking around and not seeing any constantine wire or fences Jack thought he had made it.Peering over the sewer bog he had to wade through and the grass on the other side he thought"if this the worst luck I've had then things are pretty good ".In fact till a couple of weeks ago Jack's "luck"had been pretty bad.

First there was the the arrest after the fight with his girlfriend,"stupid bitch hit me first"was his justification, the police had little empathy seeing a 6'2 ,210lb man huddled over a 5'5 130lb woman with a black eye crying then being sentenced for 2 more years in prison for violating his probation, the judge sent him to a remote area of Georgia. The guards were older and not to strict as long as you didnt start bucking the system and just moved along with the flow. Then his "luck" started to turn around,he landed a detail in the library and could look over all the new books and the older ones coming in.It was late in the day and everyone but him and a guard were left, putting books back on the shelf.Thats when he saw the gray book with no writings on it. When Jack opened it a cluster of papers went fluttering to the floor,as he bent to collect them up he saw the drawing...it was maze of the prison he looked up and shot his eyes left to right,no one, phew!Where's the guard?Still upfront at the check out perusing the news paper. His heart was racing feeling like it was going to beat out of his chest,he scoped the papers up and crammed them into his pocket so he could study them later in detail when he got back to his cell.

Jack quickly scanned his environment seeing nothing but a small white farm house with a couple of silos by a run down red barn. He crept upto the property and now his luck got better. There where some clothes on the line,he could snag some of these and ditch his prison jumpsuit."Man if my luck gets any better I'd think someone was putting me on",he started to to grab the clothes off the line when the VOICE came from across the yard.

"Lamar,is that you"?"See to them hogs fore ya come in,you'd been out here for awhile, make sure ya wash up fore we sit down ta breakfast"."Stupid ol man"he heard her say under her breath,"Just git done, lawd knows he has lost his mind too".

Wait a minute did she say breakfast??Jack quickly grabbed a shirt and overalls off the the line ditching his jumpsuit and cautiously made his way towards the house" she thinks I'm her husband, holy shit how great is this"?!

The aroma emanating from the house was intoxicating he could smell the bacon frying and all the other aromas that had almost lost his mind,no sooner had he pressed his head against the screen door to take on the culinary oderifious smells she popped her head in the door,"Mornin sweetie, did ya git all dem critters fed?Well c'mon Lamar and get it,it ain't comin to get you".

As he slid in the door way trying not to look awkward he approached the table, standing at the head he could not believe his eyes, scrambled eggs, thick cut bacon,a glass of oj and fresh still steam rising from them biscuts.

"This is wonderful, thank you so much",he couldn't help but feel a little choked up as he glared over the vision of this culinary heaven.

"Quit your sweet talkin me!Ya gettin no points like that, just sit your ol'ass down while I get the grits off da stove"she responded.

Jack quickly sat down, took a sip of his coffee and started to load his plate,as he was reaching for the biscuits he froze,he heard a familiar "click-click"from behind him.

As he spun around he came face to face with a double barrel shotgun,"Well shit Jack that ain't lucky at all!"was the last thought that went through Jack's mind as she emptied both barrels into Jack's face.

Blood, hair and gray brain matter went spewing over the white lace table cloth and covered the wall behind him.

"EEE-YEW!!!!Igot ya, you sum bitch I got ya"she shouted and started to dance around the kitchen, almost out of breath she went for the phone on the wall dialing "0".

"Jessica it's me,give me the sheriff's office"

Still panting she heard the phone ring.

"Sheriff's office, this is sheriff Robert Davis,"

Before he could finish she shouted into the phone"I got em sherrif,I got dat sum bitch he be laying in my kitchen table right now.Bring my money an bring the coroner. I got em i got em!! "

You see this little town in south Georgia relied on the prison for jobs and to help the economy. But they soon learned to run them a lottery, you let 1 inmate out out and whoever kills them, then they get the jackpot, today was Evelyn's"Lucky day"
