Daily Flash Fiction 1/4/23 W/C 201

“Why are you here?”

A tall man stood before me. “Isn’t it Tuesday?” he asked me.

“No, that’s the day after tomorrow.”

“But I’m supposed to be here. I have a date with you.” He walked over to a calendar on the wall by my desk.

“But you aren’t supposed to be here. Today’s not the right day.”

“Huh, are you Mary Jane?”

“No, I’m Susan.”

The tall man studied me.

“Are you sure?”

I stifled a laugh. “Um, yeah, pretty sure. I’ve been Susan as long as I can remember.”

“Then I don’t have a date with you today and today is not Tuesday?” This tall man definitely looked confused.

“I don’t have a date with anyone today because today is not Tuesday. I have a date with John but that is not until Friday.”

“Is this 101 Main Street?”

Now things were really getting interesting. “No, you’re at 110 High Street, the city offices.”

The tall man smiled at me. “Well darn, guess I’m all confused. Wrong day, wrong place. But, perhaps it was a lucky error. Are you busy tonight?”

“Are you John?” I smiled back at him.

He grinned at me. "Do you want me to be?"
