My Favorite Dog

Daily walk for Jadey, dread, dread. I loved my dog, I just didn’t particularly like walking, and certainly not the end of the walk, settling her down, and cleaning her up. That day was one of those days. It was raining.

Do you know that no matter how many times you tell a dog that we can go ‘right after it stops raining,’ it makes no dent in the effort of the dog to get you out of the house? How can a dog learn all those commands so well “come, “sit” “fetch” etc. and yet be totally oblivious to “later”?

Off we went, me, Jadey and my umbrella. Which helped with the rain on me, but not her. As she pulled me along, attached to her collar but still waking up, she was pulling like she was three quarters of the way through a marathon, and winning. Add there was still many patches of snow and ice along the street. Spring is a mean mother.

Of course, disaster was in the mix, not unusual. Waiting to cross the street, she saw something. I was waiting for the pedestrian light, then suddenly got swirled around six hundred miles an hour, landing face down, with the leash still in my hands. Then dragged through a melting snow puddle for about four feet before Jadey gave up.

Fortunately, a car stopped to help! That’s how obvious it was… I was soaked to the skin, but still holding the leash when my savior got to me. He corralled Jadey, helped me up, drove us home and stayed till I was calm and dry.

That was six years ago. We got married a year later and now Andy walks Jadey. And, that’s why Jadey is my favorite dog ever, and always will be. Kismet.
