Poor Fred

“Did you hear that?” Andrew whispered.

“Fred’s motion?”

“Yes, Fred’s trying to get a stop sign at the end of our street!”

“He didn’t mention Union…”

“Yes, but he did say cross streets, Union is east to west.”

“We hardly have any traffic…”

“Exactly. But since there’s no stop sign, the first car there has the right of way. It drives him crazy that I get to work before he does. I get the best parking spot!”

“You’re kidding! This is about a parking at Griffertons?”

“He’s tried getting assigned parking, Benson won’t go for it.”

“You’re reading too much into this! All he has to do is get to the intersection before you, right?”

“Yes… but he has to drop Jenny off at daycare, so most of the time I get there first…”

“You are mean!” Sylvia whispered crossly.

“Yes, I took advantage just to tick him off… However, he’s trying to instate a worthless law about stop signs just so he can get that parking spot at work! Which one of us is being mean now?”

“Jenny’s in kindergarten next year, so what then? Will you both be racing for the spot every morning?”

“Nah, I don’t really care. I just do it now to tick Fred off.”

“And you’re calling him a jerk?”

“Well, look at what he’s trying to do! Everyone on Union will have to live with this… forever! Which one of us is the jerk now?”

“Point taken,” Sylvia said, then standing up she yelled, “Don’t let him do this! He just wants to get the best parking spot at work!!”

You could cut the silence in the room, everyone looked at Fred, who turned bright red. The stop sign issue failed, but the story was told for many, many years beyond. Poor Fred…
