The Fates

It has always been the three of us, as far back as we can remember: Clotho, Lachesis, Atropos. We were already smashing the patriarchy at

our birth. Nyx is our mother, no father. Even Zeus had no power over our decisions. From your birth you got a package--non returnable.

I know you expected us to look like Roman goddesses, but hey, all women need to update their images now and then. You remember the

witches from Macbeth, "boil, boil, toil and trouble", ya, that was us. These days we like to go by the name of Heather, Heather I--Clotho,

Heather II--Lachesis, Heather III--Atropos. We like to think we look a bit like Heather Locklear. In case you fell asleep in Greek Mythology101:

Clotho, the spinner, Lachesis, the apportioner, Atropos, the snipper. We spin the web that is the thread of your life, decide its length, and

determine when that silver cord is severed. Boy was Jimmy Buffet surprised to hear about us. Hey, it's five o'clock somewhere--so go have

a cheeseburger in Paradise.

But life isn't all about work. We still hang out at the mall sometimes, despite Amazon. Recently we snagged front row seats at a Taylor Swift

concert. Yes we're Swifties, tempus fugit and all that..

Do we have any advice after all these eons? Yep, hug your friends and family, be kind, and stay away from Twitter or X, or whatever the

Muskrat is calling it now. And even he can't escape the Fates.
