A poem about memories and growing up.
You live in the moment
Take what you are given as you get it
Even if you find it hard to see
Eventually, everyone has to admit

Be it a song, a smell, a sight, a touch
The feeling you long for, there isn't enough
The visions of what once was
Make taking today a task that is tough

Friends you once knew, A place you'd once been
Dread and regret, as you'd never know them again
Sorrow and sadness for the times you miss
A wish that you wish you'd comprehend

Lost between times, now and then
Maybe you could be there, once again
The thought is fleeting, however
A hope you will not sustain

Your regret, taken away by realization
You are where you have gotten to be
The past was nice, sure
But to lock yourself there is not to be free

You are here, Here is now
One day, you will feel the same
About what you call today
But you won't feel sadness about what it became

You stay in the present, and take its gifts
Experience your life as it comes to you
Love the past, but do not long for it
You will find beauty in what is new
