the day after christmas as my ex took my daughter home. . .

I stand there in the freezing snow

I watch as you drive out of my life

Our child at your side

The cold stings my cheek and burns my eyes

But I pay no heed

It’s the burning of my soul that I feel

The longing for a love that may never be again

It's not the weather but you who seems cold

At one time you were my best friend

Now you act as if I never meant a thing to you

Even now I would do anything for your love

And you barely speak to me

I offer love and you tell me you want friendship

I offer friendship and you say you don’t know
what you want

I know what I want

I want us to be a family

I want you to love me the way you once did

If nothing else I want my best friend back

If I can’t have this

Then I fear what tomorrow might bring
