FACING THE STORM

Whispering softly, the mother
Bent over the crib to see
That her babe was covered well;
Relieved that he seemed to be.

A strong gust of wind
Blew open the window then -
She hurried to close it tight
And prayed for the storm to end!

So fierce the storm outside!
The lights flickered and went out -
She heard a knocking at the door;
Then went to see what it was about.

Outside in the driving rain
She saw her darling husband's face;
"I had to make it home tonight,
Almost didn't find this place."

The storm had brought the river up
And the bridge was washed away -
He had made it across in time
To see the big pine start to sway!

A strong gust of wind
Took the big pine down -
The storm brought damage
All around the town.

Whispering a prayer of thanks
She put her fears aside -
They were facing the storm together
And they had Heaven on their side!
