It hurts to watch a friend hurt.
Sheol
-------------------------------------------------

Spread your wings and come again
Keep the dark skies at bay
With no more thought of now and then
With nothing left to say

You could cradle my heart in both your hands
Not knowing that you could crush it
You can lick the wound that never mends
Then just cover it up and bluff it

You fly yourself from place to place
So no one will remember
The girl that changed from face to face
The queen, the God, The leper

Its hard to hear you through this wall
Though your busy building new ones
It hurts to sit and watch you fall
Again and again, a life of reruns

You scratch the back thats stabbing yours
Not listening to your heart
You lock the pain behind closed doors
And smile, play the part

You believe the lies they tell you,
The ones they breathe through smiling teeth
You defend the way they treat you
And hide the bruises underneath

Have you felt what its like to be chained
Do you know how it feels to be free
Have you cried out in prayer for the rain
Did you look close enough to see through me

Your life is a lie
All you hold to be true
But if you were only a dream
Then I'd invent you
