Welcome To My Corner Of The World



From my rosewood desk I look up and realize that it is time to take a break from writing on the computer. When I look up my view opens out to the verandah and beyond. My lips curl up into a big smile because I can hear the breakers surging their relentless march through the coral reef and rocks to the white sandy beach then back again.

The sight I look out on is filled with every shade of azure, aquamarine, deep blues and greens imaginable giving my eyes a feast of colors that dazzles them.

Almost every morning this is the sight that greets me. In the late evening I look out on the same scene only now it has been painted over with myriad hues of yellows, oranges - bronze and reds that deepen until night overtakes the sky.

Everyday I reassure myself with "Well someone has to live here."

Often during the night I'm aware the tide is coming back in as my dream world registers the sound of breakers a little louder than before and I'm drawn to the window once again. My eyes are mesmerized by the silvery moonlight reflected on the water as it makes its zigzagging path across the smooth surface of the ocean. It is a breathtaking sight that I drink in, never tiring of it. So it's back to bed to await the first light of dawn. Soon the sun will peek across the eastern mountains to yet another glorious sunrise across my South Pacific Island.

If you're ever in the neighborhood come by for an early morning cup of coffee or a late afternoon glass of iced tea. You'll be greeted my dog Thompson, then Marmite the family cat, my husband of thirty-nine years and of course by me.

You will find inspiration in the spectacular view and be refreshed by digging your toes into the sand on the beach and I'll say, "Welcome to the place I call home".
