After I am no more...
I’ll be dead and gone

I’ll not correct you then,
for I’ll be dead and gone.
I’ll not criticise,
nor nag that one thing
that you know
bothers me so.

I’ll be nothing but
a twinkle of ashes and dust,
blown out past Ireland’s Eye.

My voice, at full bellow,
will no longer fill rooms,
but may still echo
around your mind.

I’ll not hold you then,
for I’ll be dead and gone.
I’ll not comfort,
nor cherish those things
that you know
pleasure me so.

However, I’ll be more than
a glimmering of light,
seen in the corner of your eye.

My memories, in all splendour,
will saturate every niche
and will still stream out
across your world.

I’ll not love you then,
for I’ll be dead and gone,
but love’s ripple
and the trick of memory
will be yours,
to hold me near.

And I shall be more than
a radiance of memories
felt in your deepest core.
