THE WISHING SEASON

In the warm comfort of her home,
The blithe young woman rested;
As a crimson sun set in the west,
Her tolerance was sorely tested.

It was just the wishing season
When she wished for a warm spring day;
When windows were not marked by frost
And the world was light and gay.

She pulled another blanket on
As she shivered from the cold;
She wished again for fields of green
And the daffodils of gold.

It was midwinter and she knew
That the days would soon pass by;
That once more spring would come.
And that a wish was worth the try.
