LOVE LINES

"Mama, there are love lines
All around your face!"
I looked at her and smiled,
As her little fingers traced

The lines around my mouth
And those around my eyes;
Some people call them "laugh lines"
But my little girl was wise.

Her daddy, overhearing, smiled
His sweet smile and agreed
That they did look like love lines,
And then he felt the need

To run his fingers over my lips
and kiss me on the nose;
"If these are love lines I have,
You've given me them, God knows!"

A hug and she was out the door
With her daddy on her heels;
I listened to their laughter
And heard her happy squeals!

I looked into the mirror
And much to my surprise
I, too, saw the love lines
Around my mouth and eyes.

They started when I met him,
And grew when we were wed;
They got even deeper when
"You've a daughter now!" they said.

As long as I can remember
I will cherish the memory
When they discovered love lines,
For they mean the world to me!
