A delightful short story for kids based on nursery rhyme 'Hey Diddle Diddle'.
It was nearly time for the moon party. Colin Cat looked in the mirror to check that his ears were standing up and his tail was straight.

Picking up his fiddle, Colin Cat skipped out the door. “Hello” called Milly Cow with a twitch of her tail. “Are you ready for the party?” asked Milly.

“Meoww, yes I am” replied Colin Cat. Skipping along Colin Cat played the fiddle. Milly Cow strutted down the lane twitching her tail with the music.

This year the moon party would be at Danny Dog’s house. Danny Dog was busy setting up before his friends arrived. First he hung up the streamers and balloons. Scampering into the kitchen he quickly checked that the food was ready.

Danny Dog was happy that all was ready for the moon party. Glancing up, he found that the moon was where it was supposed to be, in the sky. “Good, this should be a great moon party” he said.

“Yes” said Peter Dish as he came through the garden gate, “I have brought the plates for the party”.

“Hello” called Suzy Spoon, “Are we ready for the moon party?”

“Yes” Peter Dish and Danny Dog said at the same time. Looking at each other they laughed.

At the same time, Peter Dish, Danny Dog and Suzy Spoon looked up to find where the music was coming from. It was getting louder and louder. The last guests for the moon party had arrived. Down the lane and through the garden gate came Colin Cat playing the fiddle and Milly Cow dancing a jig.

All the friends were happy to see each other as it was now time for the party to start. All the food was put out on the tables and Colin Cat played his fiddle. Peter Dish and Suzy Spoon danced around the tables. Danny Dog howled at the moon.

Milly Cow jumped in the air. Colin Cat played the fiddle and sang “Hey Diddle Diddle, the Cat and the Fiddle”

Milly Cow jumped higher and higher. Colin Cat sang “the cow jumped over the moon”. Milly Cow jumped so high, she jumped over the moon.

Danny Dog laughed and laughed to see such fun as Milly Cow jumped again.
Colin Cat played the fiddle, Danny Dog laughed and Milly Cow jumped higher and higher until she jumped over the moon.

Peter Dish and Suzy Spoon danced around the group faster and faster and then raced out the garden gate and down the lane. Danny Dog laughed and howled at the moon.

“What a great moon party” said Colin Cat and Milly Cow as they went home.
