A poem about life, death, and moving on.
On the last day of winter; The first day of spring
The beginning and ending of many a thing

There stood a lone tree dying out in the cold
Near the house of a woman, lonely and old

It was desperately holding on to its last leaf
Finally it gave in and admitted defeat

It let go of its last thing of beauty and then
Its final leaf blew away in the cool winter wind

The old lady was staring out at this sight
Thinking back to the day when she stood it upright

Knowing that her fate would be just the same
Living alone and dying in pain

She cries as the leaf softly kisses the ground
She sighs and has never since this made a sound

These are the things that loneliness brings
But when summer's heat comes the bluebird still sings

The flowers come out and the bees surely sting
On the last day of winter; The first day of spring
