What were Mary's thoughts as she held her Son's broken body?
Quietly,
quietly
You rest again upon these knees-
helpless, passive as before,
in another time.
Once more I hold you,
touch you,
surround you
in my arms.

What is this that You have done?
Is this so different
than that first Word,
when You stretched out Your hands,
humanity driven through divinity,
binding it,
robbing it of strength?

The nails of flesh
could not contain Your power-
can mere nails of steel do more?
