THE NURSING HOME

A resident now in a nursing home,
she is one we can't forget;
although her memory has faded now
and her voice is silent, yet

The beauty of her spirit
will forever live as we recall
that she once was young and vital
giving hope and love to all.

The nursing home is a place
that gives the care she needs,
a daughter comes to visit
and it's the Bible that she reads.

We speak to her of many things
just as we used to do before;
perhaps she hears and understands
but her eyes show nothing anymore.

She's in a world away from us,
but she will always remain
the wife, mother, and sister;
she won't come home again.

God knows she is just waiting
to travel on and then
be safe in the arms of Jesus,
who will make her whole again.

Dedicated to my sister June, who will be 80 on June 7, 2004, an Alzheimers patient who is spending her last days in a nursing home.
