Two of my poems about losing someone you love.
ODE TO DEATH

Sometimes things happen and we don't know why
But we never realize the reason people die
We wish for a chance to see them again
Then we begin to understand that it is the end
Never again are we to see their face
But instead we will have the memories to embrace

Sometimes people leave without saying "goodbye"
But there are times they can't, no matter how much they try
Deep inside they want you to know that it's their time to go
Then, they realize that it will be too hard to let you know
They will be gone forever from this place
And their life passed so quickly as if in fast pace

Sometimes they try their hardest not to go home
Because they don't want to leave you here alone
So they force themselves to stay as long as possible
But then all it does is cause more trouble
You begin to realize how much they want to stay
And you realize that they are slipping farther from you each day

As it all comes to an end, you begin to reminisce
Before they leave, you give them a goodbye kiss
You remind them of how much you love them
And even though they're gone, they'll still be your friend
Because you'll always have the memories of your time together
And those you will have to last you forever

When they are gone you miss them so much
And you wish that just once you could feel their touch
In your mind is a vivid picture of their face
Then you remember that they're in a better place
All you can do is wait for the day you'll see them again
Because one day it will be your turn to go to heaven

THEY'RE GONE

It was one of those days where it seems that everything goes awry
The very moment you wake from such a peaceful slumber
You know the day is going to be the worst you ever had
You have that tense, uneasy feeling at the pit of your stomach
No matter how busy you tend to keep yourself
You cannot disregard that feeling tht something is going to go wrong today
Everywhere you go you can experience nothing else
Except that which is completely surrounded by a bad aura
In every building, around every being
It greets you with the most sinister of grins
As you take the dog for his morning wak
You become more and more uncomfortable
Every couple of steps you examine your surroundings
As though you are expecting someone to jump out from behind a tree or bush
You are so nervous when getting dressed for work
Your whole body seems to shake profuciously
You try to pour a cup of coffe to help calm your nerves
But, instead, you drop the pot on the floor
Your anxiety level is so intense you can't even clean the mess
Finally, you are ready to go to work
But you can's find the strength to walk out of the house
As soon as you step out the door, you hear the phone ring
Within a few seconds thousands of vile thoughts run through your mind
You cannot decide if you should answer, so you let it ring
The person on the other end does not give up
But, instead, hangs up and calls right back
When you answer the phone you voice is trembling and hands are shaking
There is a dead silence on the other end that drives you insane
Then, it happens
You hear the voice on the other end crying
Instantly, you recognize the voice of your sister
Right then you know that this is it
The very thing you have been anticipating all morning
You need to get to the hospital right away
When you arrive at the hospital your sister runs up to you in tears
Her lips tremble as she tries to speak
By the look in her eyes you know
This is in fact the worst day in your life
They're gone
