A poem I wrote on Valentine's Day, for my girlfriend.
We’ve set aside a holiday
To focus on the heart.
We let our greed defile it
Because we’re fucking smart.

Flowers, candy, diamonds, cards
It’s all we’re thinking of.
Apparently if you’re not rich
You cannot fall in love.

On this very special day,
A warning goes to most.
Get her something good today,
or else your ass is toast.

Or minds so deep and thoughtful,
This is all we know:
“I guess I love you more today,
The calendar says so.”

Pretentiousness and ignorance
Never get one far.
Valentine’s Day isn’t special.
You, my sweetheart, are.
